At Heartland Animal Hospital, we’re dedicated to delivering the finest possible treatment, along with the compassionate care your pet deserves. Serving the Wichita metro area since 2000, our state-of-the-art facility provides a complete range of routine and emergency care, with a long list of specialties. We strive to provide a high standard of healthcare to each of our patients while providing compassion, kindness and individual attention to each.
Dr Gary graduated from Kansas State University in 1997. He practiced small animal medicine in Lawrence, Kansas before coming to Wichita and buying Heartland Animal Hospital in 2000. Dr. Gary has two girls, Ava and Sydney, with his wife, Julie. Dr. Gary started scuba diving a few years ago and now finds it one of the most enjoyable leisurely pursuits. He also looks forward to football season so he can start playing fantasy football again. In his spare time if he isn't scuba diving or watching football he enjoys the outdoors with his 2 girls every chance he can get.
Dr Bill graduated from Kansas State University in 1996 and has been practicing primarily small animal medicine since. He married his high school sweetheart, Jami, in 1990. They have two daughters, Madison, who is 14 and Emily, who is 11. Both kids are very active in sports which keeps them very busy. When they aren’t at sporting events they are very active in the community through their church. In their free time they enjoy attending KSU football games and spending time at home with their 10 pets! They have 2 cats, Black Jack (BJ) and Gizmo, 2 dogs, Ellie and Ozzie, 3 horses, Loco, Socks and PJ and 3 chickens, Pecky, Rosebud and Dozen.
Dr Bill has become very active in cancer therapy for pets in the last few years. He has had several chemotherapy patients and has been able to provide some of our patients many additional years of remission through his oncology expertise.

Play & Stay Team
Lindsay started at Heartland as a client care associate. She expressed her interest in managing a dog day care for several years and eventually transitioned into the manager of Play & Stay once it was built in 2009. She graduated from KU in 2003 with a degree in Biology. She is a mother to a little girl named Hayley. Aside from spending time with her little girl, she loves food, music, movies and keeps herself busy on the outside with pet sitting and assisting pet owners who are relocating overseas with their pets. She is an avid fan of the bulldog breed, currently owning 1 named Goose. She also has a Weimeraner, Runner and 2 cats, Hibyc and Butler.
Danielle got her start at Heartland as a kennel attendant while she was still in high school. In 2007, she began working part of her time as a client care associate for the hospital. When Play & Stay opened in 2009, she transitioned over to serve as assistant manager. She was born and raised in Wichita, KS and has a passion for her fur babies. She has 3 cats named Gertie, Beanie & Indie as well as a German Shepherd named Sasha who was a Magnum fund rescue.
Allison is from the Wichita area. She graduated from Southwestern College with a degree in biology. She married her high school sweetheart in 2016. They are pet parents to 6 animals; 2 dogs- Diesel and Kaylee, 2 cats- Hattie and Hamish, and 2 rats- Padfoot and Prongs. Allison enjoys time with friends, cosplay, reading and camping.
Brittany, pictured with her best pal Marshall, works in our lodging and daycare facility. She has recently added to her fur family with the adoption of a Beagle mix named Zoey. Her patience and love for animals makes her a wonderful asset to our Play & Stay team. When she is not at work, she enjoys all things art related! She is a great artist, loves the ocean and an avid longboarder!

Pet Care Associate
Rusty has lived in Wichita for 20 years. He spent 5 years studying Sociology and Philosophy at KU. He has 1 dog, Terra, and would like to train her for agility and other dog competitions. In his free time, he plays board games, reads philosophy and Manga, and enjoys a cup of coffee with friends! (Except none of his friends enjoy coffee..)
Peanut is a Yellow-Collared Mini-Macaw. He was born in 2000. He loves almonds, nuts and very few people. He has a few staff members who he allows to hold him, but his favorite past time is hanging with Dr Gary. When he is not at Dr Gary's house, he can be found hanging out in his parrot mansion in the Play & Stay lobby!

Kaylee was raised in Austin, TX for most of her life until moving to Wichita, KS in 2017. She comes from a family avid in caring for all types of animals whether it be snakes, dogs or cats. She is the mother to four fur babies; Her Pug - Lelou, Her two Schnugs - Frankie & Zoey, as well as her boyfriend's family Maltese/Bichon Frise Mix - Cece.During her free time she enjoys listening to music, playing video games, watching horror movies and crafts!

Pet Care Associate
Melanie grew up in the country and worked on her family farm. She has a farm and ranch management degree and is pursuing an animal science degree. She dreams of one day having her own ranch and animal rescue organization. She owns 2 German Shepherd puppies, Lilly and Rebel, and little cat named Munchkin. She enjoys cooking, baking, reading, camping and horse back riding!
Alexis has been a Wichitan her whole life. She is a fur-mom to a rescued lab mix named Gino and 2 cats, Vinny and Tuvok. She is currently a student at Emporia State and studying elementary education! In her free time, she enjoys painting and yoga!
Pet Care Attendant
Leslie is from Bennington, KS. She is currently studying biology and pre-veterinary at WSU. She hopes to one day pursue her love of all animals and become an exotic vet. She is currently a cat only mom to 2 black cats named Charlotte and Hiccup. However, she hopes to add a dog to her fur-family soon! When she is not working, she enjoys painting and Netflix binging!
Pet Care Attendent
Taylor is from Wichita area. She is currently home schooled and will graduate this May. She plans to continue a career with animals after that. She is allergic to cats, however, she is a fur mom to 5 dogs- Coco, Layla, Jerome, Buffalo and Gabby. Taylor has also practiced ballet for 5 years. She loves to draw and any outdoor activity, especially one that one of dogs can share with her!
Kaley grew up in Derby. She recently graduated with an associates in Psychology. She is working on her certification for professional dog training. She hopes to one day be a trainer for service dogs. She is a dog-mom to Maggie, a Goldendoodle currently in service dog training! She also assists in training classes at the Family Dog Training Center!
Meet Rocky, our resident fish. She joined the Play & Stay family in 2010. We estimate she was approximately 3 years old at that time. We have attempted to get her roommates, however, she misunderstood and thought we were bringing her a nice dinner. She enjoys her solitude in her large aquarium, which can be found in our cat lodging room.
Julie is the practice manager of Heartland Animal Hospital. She has been working in the veterinary field since 1989. Julie and her husband, Dr. Gary, have 2 kids together, Sydney and Ava. Besides managing both kids and their activities is a foster parent for homeless pets when needed. The dog in her picture is Piper, a dog who was part of the Magnum Fund and was helped to find a new forever home! Julie became active in the march against Animal Abuse after she met a puppy named Magnum in 2005. His story along with some very passionate supporters inspired our legislators to pass a law that enforces stricter punishment on those people that neglect or abuse an animal. Heartland clients continue to donate and have helped to offset the costs of many needy pets through their recovery and on to their forever home.
Ashley was born and raised in Wichita, KS. She is an avid Pomerican lover, owning 2 Pomeranians herself- Layla and Buddy. She will soon marry the father of a little Beagle named Swiffer! She loves music, concerts, painting, food and spending time with her young nieces and nephews.
Allison is from Seattle, WA. She has an Australian Cattle Dog named Brinley, and two cats Romeo and Opal. She got her start in the animal welfare industry in 2014 working for the Kansas Humane Society. In 2015, she came to Heartland and worked in the daycare facility for 2 years, before transferring to the hospital side reception. Allison also works with Hands Full Dog Training part time as an assistant dog trainer. In her free time she enjoys weight-lifting and any activity that she can include her dog in. She plans to go back to become a Registered Veterinary Technician.

Client Care Associate
Anna is one of our veterinary technicians who got her start at Heartland as a kennel attendant in 2006. She expressed an interest in becoming a veterinary assistant and began training shortly after. In 2009, she left to pursue her RVT degree & graduated in 2011 from Colby Community College. We were happy to have her return to Heartland to continue her career. Anna was born and raised in Wichita, KS and is active in the Harvey County 4-H group where she teaches kids how to train and show their own dogs. She has a cat named Roo, a Golden Retriever named Tanner and a Westie named Carly.
Emily is one of our veterinary assistants who has been a loyal Heartland employee longer than any other staff member. She is the proud mother of a wonderful little boy, Joe, and a little girl, Zoey. She enjoys reading and relaxing with friends and family. She and her family have 2 dogs, Scar and Kelsey; 3 cats, Batman, Cedar and Fisher; and a snake and pet rats.
Adrienne, Since 2013
Adrienne is from Newton, KS. She has a BS in Animal Sciences from University of Wisconsin, River Falls. She spent 10 years working in the horse racing industry while she lived in Minneapolis. She moved home to KS in 2013 with her off the track thoroughbred, Wasson. When she is not working or with her horse, she loves movies, TV, and watching baseball (Twins and Royals ONLY!) and horse racing.

Kristin is from Lansing, KS. She graduated and got her degree from Lincoln Memorial University as a Registered Veterinary Technician. Her and her husband have 1 dog, Riley, and 2 cats, Zoey and Nala. They also has a baby boy named Hayden! When she is not at work, she enjoys watching movies, hanging out with family, running and playing games.

Jessica is from Ninneka, Oklahoma. She graduated from OSU with a Geography degree. She hopes to one day run a Wildlife Rehab facility. She has 2 kids, Channing and Anna. She has 2 dogs- Riley and Cherry, 2 cats- Brooks and Goosie, 1 bird and some fish! Outside of work, she enjoys reading, writing and baking!
Tara is our Jersey girl who, lucky for us, moved to Kansas 15 years ago and is now one of our veterinary assistants. She graduated from WSU in 2008 with a Bachelor’s of General Studies with majors in chemistry, biology and women’s studies. She keeps herself busy with her husband, 5 children, and 11 grandchildren! She owns 5 cats named Ferdinand, Mini Bit., Little Bit, Inde and Orange. Her 3 dogs, Madam Tui, Socks and Zailey. She is a foster home for kittens for the Heartland adoption program when needed.
